The 'E' word. I was invited to participate in a panel discussion on 'Entrepreneurs and what they do' for Reading Uni's Entrepreneurship Module at the Henley Business School. The 'E' word always sits slightly uncomfortably on my head, like a hat I don't remember buying. But the idea of sharing personal experiences in response to a number of questions the Undergrads and Master students have put together, makes sense. And is challenging enough to put most unseasoned speakers (like me) well out of their comfort zones. Something which is essential for creativity.
Standing up in front of 200 students studying everything from Art through to Zoology is, I admit, more daunting than finding myself sandwiched between two majors at the Commandant's house at Sandhurst Military Academy for lunch yesterday! Mostly because you have the responsibility of putting yourself into the students shoes and sharing real things which will make them see the art of the 'possible' and help ease their way into the 'world of work'.
The after buzz is always amazing, and reward itself. Chatting with the students and listening to their ideas and thanks makes me sure they would benefit from more exposure. So if you are like-minded and willing to give up your time make a difference.
